Overview
The 黑料社 (TEA), in collaboration with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), would like to support the announcement of the Summer Meal Program.
The Summer Meal Program connects Texas children to healthy, nutritious meals while school is out. As a community leader, you play a critical role in increasing awareness of the program and ensuring children in your community have access to these meals.
Next Steps
TDA has requested school systems share the following message with parents and families through your communication channels throughout the summer.
鈥淪tarting around June 1, families can use two tools to find nearby sites serving no-cost meals for children 18 and younger 鈹 VISIT or CALL 2-1-1. In addition to locating a site, it鈥檚 important to frequently use these tools to confirm dates and times and gather more information about meal services.鈥
For school systems that are operating standard, open congregate sites, please ensure messaging includes a reminder that meals are served at no cost and children do not need to register or provide an ID.
For school systems operating rural non-congregate flexibilities, please communicate any special requirements to families, for example, if operating parent pick-up or home delivery.
Resources
TDA has developed no-cost online resources and materials for schools, food sponsors, elected officials, and community members to use as promotional items to raise program awareness. Please visit to access these resources and learn more about the Summer Meal Program.
Thank you for helping promote the Summer Meal Program to Texas families.
